In Year Three, we want all children to have the opportunity to develop into successful learners, whilst enjoying the learning process on the way. The activities we have set will support children to achieve the targets we know that they are capable of achieving. In order to ensure this is possible, it is important that children work on improving their knowledge and skills in all subject areas. Please encourage your child to complete around 4-5 activities a day. They should complete work for Maths, Arithmetic, Reading, English and SPaG every day. If you have any questions about the work that has been set, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher on ClassDojo. Happy Learning!

Maths

Before the school closed, our maths focus was money. This week we will be recapping on money, focussing on adding and subtracting monetary amounts and eventually trying to apply our understanding to word problems.

The links and resources below may help your child answer these questions

Arithmetic:

In order to ensure children are secure in the four operations, children usually answer arithmetic questions whilst being times. For the questions below, children are usually given 10 minutes (depending on the number of questions). This works out to be around a minute per question.

Reading

In order for children to excel in reading, children must be able to read fluently and show an understanding of what they have read. It is vital that children read at home every day. You can inspire a love of reading in your child by allowing them to read texts which they enjoy or have an interest in. In addition to this, ensuring that children can demonstrate an understanding of what they read is crucial. You can support your child in doing this by asking them some questions after they have read independently. These may include

  • Summarise what has happened in the part of the story you just read.
  • How do you think (character) is feeling? Why do you think that?
  • What do you think might happen next? How do you know?
  • Do you think this story will have a happy ending or a sad ending? How do you know?

Encourage your child to provide evidence from the text to support their conclusions as this demonstrates they have an awareness of what the author is trying to relay.

Writing

In writing, the children need to be able to write for a range of purposes. This week we will be asking children to write a persuasive letter to the government to remind them of the huge issues relating to plastic pollution. We would recommend that children write a paragraph a day at least. They need to plan this into 3 main parts:

  • Introduction- why are you writing this letter?
  • Main body- what would you like the government to do about this?
  • Conclusion- summary of what you would like the government to do and why it is so important that they take action.

They need to remember to set their work out correctly, following the layout of a formal letter. They must also remember to include accurate use of punctuation.

  • Senders address
  • Your address
  • Date
  • Full stops and capital letters
  • Conjunctions (co-ordinating and subordinating)
  • Commas
  • Paragraphs
  • Question marks
  • Exclamation marks

SPaG (Spelling Punctuation and Grammar)

For Grammar, please encourage your child to complete the activities, which check children’s understanding of the grammar and punctuation aspect of SPaG

For spellings this week, we will be focusing on adding the suffix –ly. Children should complete an activity a day which will develop their understanding of adding this suffix to root words.

Curriculum/ RE/ P.E.

For curriculum this week, children will be creating an informative poster about plastic pollution and considering what people could to help tackle the issue of plastic pollution.

Be as creative as you can!

Make sure to tune into the daily Joe Wicks P.E. sessions to ensure children are remaining active!

We also have an ongoing R.E project which children may also choose to work on one day each week.

Remember to send pictures of your child’s completed work to your child’s class teacher!
