Welcome to Year 4

We have two classes in this year group. The Year 4 teaching staff team is: Mrs Gotch and Miss Broughton.

Our classes have all been named after local landmarks / places of interest, we are: Fineshade Class and Harringworth Class.

We are going to be studying and exploring 6 Big Questions this academic year. These are:

History: What happened after the Romans left Britain?

D.T.: How did the design of the Roman shield help make the Roman Army so powerful? and What makes a great Christmas snack?

Geography: Is our planet more blue or green?

History: Were the Ancient Greeks more influential than the Ancient Romans?

Art: What does music look like?

Geography: Would you rather live in the U.K. or the U.S.A.?

During Year Four, we will become historians as we learn about what happened after the Romans left Britain and learn all about life in Ancient Greece. In our geography lessons, we will use all our geography skills, including map reading, time zones and settlement hierarchies, to decide if we would rather live in the U.K.. or the U.S.A.. Our geography knowledge will also help us learn about life under the sea. As designers, we will be designing, making and evaluating a Christmas snack and a Roman shield! In our art lessons, we will use sketching to develop our ideas over time as we learn about the work Kandinsky and create our own art in his infamous style using music as inspiration. We will also continue to develop our knowledge of the French language, R.E., P.S.H.E. and computing. Over the course of the year, we will have a number of trips around the local area and have visitors into school. For a more detailed overview of our curriculum, please visit the curriculum section of our website.

We have an exciting year ahead and can’t wait to share learning experiences with the children and join them as they continue their journey through Key Stage Two. We are privileged to be able to watch them grow in confidence and flourish within themselves.

Throughout the year, parents will be invited to share their children's achievements in class, join in with the children’s experiences and come on school trips and local visits if they are able to volunteer some time.
